Award Review - Round 1
Section 130 of the Industrial Relations Act 1999 provides for a review of state awards to be carried out by the Commission within a minimum of 3 years after the making of the award and for a further review after a subsequent period of 3 years.

In carrying out the review of the awards, Section 126 of the Act requires that the Commission must ensure that an award -
- does not contain discriminatory provisions
- is stated in plain English and is easy to understand in structure and content
- does not contain provisions that are obsolete or need updating
- provides for secure, relevant and consistent wages and employment conditions
- provides for equal remuneration for men and women employees for work of equal or comparable value
- provides fair standards for employees in the context of living standards generally prevailing in the community
- is suited to the efficient performance of work according to the needs of particular enterprises, industries or workplaces; and.s 127 108 s 128 Industrial Relations Act 1999
- takes account of the efficiency and effectiveness of the economy, including productivity, inflation and the desirability of achieving a high level of employment; and
- whenever possible
- contains facilitative provisions that allow agreement at the workplace or enterprise level, between employers and employees (including individual employees), on how the award provisions are to apply; and
- contains provisions enabling the employment of regular part-time employees; and
- provides support for training arrangements.
